Politics of Reservation

I was thinking and analyzing the current method by which the government is going to implement OBC reservation and suddenly this thing crossed my mind that the current method of implementing reservations benefits the general category more than anyone else. If you have already started wondering here's how.

Current Scenario

Suppose a college with 100 seats

SC/ST-22.5 seats (they make 22.5% of the population)

Gen-77.5 seats (they make 77.5 % of the population)

After Implementing OBC Reservation

  • 27 % reservation for OBC's
  • No. of seats for general category unaffected.

To provide 27 % seats to OBC's keeping the no. of seats for the Gen category same the college with 100 seats must increase its intake to 153 seats.

Total-153 seats

Gen (OBC's removed)(same no of seats)-77.5 seats( they make only 33.5 % of the population)

OBC - 41 seats (they make 44 % of the population)

SC/ST – 34.5 seats (they make 22.5 % of the population)

So after this analysis we can safely conclude that the 27% reservation is a direct advantage for the general category. So what makes them protest against Reservation? Reservations are a clutter we have been carrying from an unbearably long time. They divide our country on basis of cast. It has already become ineffective. For Ex. In our college The line of cars is much longer on the day of SC/ST counseling, compared to gen category counseling.(Well it might not be big or direct proof of the ineffectiveness of the reservation system, but it a small observation). Our minister's for their ulterior selfish motives. Have incurred a huge loss to the nation.

As such in absolute numbers, it will benefit the general category. But if these 53 seats were increased in non-reserved category then I believe it will not only would have benefitted the general category but also govt's vote bank also. As now 33.5% gen category( as arush says) would be happy plus these 44% OBC(I don't believe this %age, but still)as they wouldn't have been introduced to such a biased reservation concept and they would be getting more chances to qualify entrances on merit. It would also avoid vote bank loss of gujjars and minas for example. In this way they have just split their vote bank and a clear point to youth as not elect this govt. in next elections when it comes to choosing between two "inefficient" parties. And thinking rationally this move should not increase their vote bank also. As OBCs should understand that this bill is passed and implemented by SC now, so their is nothing that govt as such has to do now to implement it. So whichever govt they select this reservation would stay(as no govt will have courage to withdraw it now) and there is slim chance that this govt will increase this quota further. So favoring this govt by OBCs would again be an obsolete decision on their behalf.
Now if they really want to benefit the unpriviliged, the basis can be simply on economic basis. I believe that would be much more reliable than OBC certificate. Even this is not the correct solution. Emphasis should be on primary and secondary education and its infrastructure. If you just visit a village school, you would know what I am talking about. As Himanshu said that even when they get the admission in primier collegse they are not able to cope with it. The reason is as simple as the truth that these people are not meritorious enough to avail that level of education. I don't mean that OBCs don't deserve it, but simply desiring is not enough. Some special colleges can be made for economically backward sect with world class infrastructure and faculty. And then try to bring them to that level. Because now all these student's would have a feeling of belongingness and special course structure will enable this huge human resource to be optimized correctly. This reservation policy have clearly made a line between general and reserved castes and the youth would now regain the knowledge of castes( thanks to them) which was slowly diminishing from our society earlier.
Abhi ke liye, saada fayda ho gaya, ab ki hod. Enjoy!! :((

Ankit has a good habit-
"the first line he says in a discussion is the conclusion of the discussion" .

So now after researching in the comment made by ankit mittal.

Making caste based school's is dividing the society(why do that?).
Lets keep it simple. We need to spend money on better schools in the backward areas, rather than providing reservation in higher education.

Rest has been concluded by ankit.
