Trying to analyze the thinking of a Politician

We all would have criticized our politicians, some day – for they are corrupt.

But have you ever thought they are very much like us. After all they represent us in the parliament. They are a selected bunch of common people.

They have the same choices as us. And the choices of common human being's generally are- money, fame, respect, love (can u suggest anything else).

Now try to keep yourself in the place of Mr. X (a big politician). You recently Rs. 400 crore from a scam. You think you won't need more in your life. In fact you can't spent even this much. One of your choice's( money) has been satisfied . What would you do now? When I kept myself in Mr.X's place I thought I should move on to my next choices, Fame, respect?

So, what I want to convey is that not all politicians are corrupt. Mr X has different choices at different points and there are politicians who don't have money as their choice. We should look politics with a more positive attitude. With more respect to our politicians.

Currently we believe politicians to be a little better than criminals. And our thinking results to more criminals entering politics. If we view politics from a positive perspective then only some of us will get into politics. To make a better India.

I agree that we should view politics from a positive perspective. But as u analyzed the needs and choices that a common man makes, you chose all materialistic and pompish things. You forgot about self realisation and satisfaction that one achieves on serving someone. The feeling of helping someone is beyond money, fame and respect. Thats why people make huge donations to charities because that overpowers any other need. I don't say that politicians should donate their life to the nation, but they are not also serving for free. They get a decent pay, plus humungous number of perks and enormous fame and respect from people. With such an obliged life given by god, they choose to demand more and serve less. This greed takes them beyond the limits of acceptance of a common man. And these politicians being amongst a common man is the main reason people won't accept their corruption, because they compare themselves with him and question why he should get this( that won't be the case if a king does so). So a politician must not forget he is amongst common people, and what he is getting is more than he deserves.

In todays world there are very few people who are enlightened enough to serve the society. The hunger for fame and respect drives people in politics to social work.

"So a politician must not forget he is amongst common people, and what he is getting is more than he deserves."

And the salaries+perks that the executive of the biggest democracy get, is dust compared to the salaries given to CEO's of big company.

"This greed takes them beyond the limits of acceptance of a common man."

As i said politicians are from among the common man. A common man put in the same circumstances will have the same greed. So the common man instead of disrespecting the politician should try to understand the politicians perspective.

Insulting the politician would not solve the problem.
To solve the problem we have to first understand the problem. Know the root cause of the problem. And when we know the root cause the coming generations will be better placed to sway away from the problem.

There is a difference from where i see this issue( i am viewing it from an indian's perspective) Although completely agreed that politicians are humans and are governed by these needs but our indian political bravados are overwhelmed by these. The level of corruption they have attained is infact commendable; politics is a dirty field worldover and politicians do take huge sums of money in other countries too, but there is a difference. While in other countries life is not placed above money here in india it is. Let me explain this with an example: Suppose a contract has to be given to make a flyover, now in US or any such country bribes will be given by firms to get hold of the contract and thats it, the flyover made will be of the quality as it was asked for while here in India first the bribe will be given to get hold of the contract and further money will be given under the table so that lesser quality material could be used. So here it goes my friend, politicians (indian specifically) can no longer gain respect until they start learning how to respect human life

Ya, i totally agree that the level of corruption achieved by Indian politicians is commendable.

But USA was not the same always.
The corruption was same in earlier days in USA also. And as India is marching towards development corruption will slowly diminish.

Life is given more priority in richer countries. And as Indian economy is growing (don't consider the past 6 months) we will be at the same stage after some time.

So, what i wanted to say that as the time is changing, if we give respect to politicians then it would encourage the deserving people to go into politics and improve the condition of our country.
